What it is
Firebase Basics is a foundational Google Cloud skill that handles Firebase CLI setup, authentication, project creation, project selection, and app configuration file downloads. It explicitly scopes itself to these foundational tasks and directs users to separate skills for Hosting, Firestore, Auth, App Hosting, Data Connect, Crashlytics, and Remote Config. The skill enforces six usage principles: always use npx -y firebase-tools@latest instead of the bare firebase command for version consistency, prioritize the Firebase MCP Server and Developer Knowledge search tools over general knowledge, follow agent skills for implementation guidance, use Firebase MCP Server tools instead of direct API calls, keep skills updated, and automate config file retrieval for iOS and Android apps rather than directing users to the Firebase Console. A critical feature is the agent environment setup: the skill includes specific setup guides for Gemini CLI, Antigravity, Android Studio, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and other agents. If firebase-basics is the only Firebase skill available, the agent must follow these setup references to install the full suite of Firebase skills. The skill also covers headless authentication (login --no-localhost for environments without a browser) and requires agents to ask developers before creating new projects versus using existing ones.
