What it is
jdtls-lsp is a Claude Code plugin that brings the Eclipse JDT.LS (Java Development Tools Language Server) into Claude Code. It provides code intelligence and refactoring capabilities for Java source code. It supports files with the .java extension.
The plugin relies on the jdtls executable being installed on your system. On macOS you can install it with Homebrew. On Arch Linux it is available from the AUR. Other Linux distributions need a manual installation: you download a release from the Eclipse JDT.LS snapshots site, extract it to a directory, and add a wrapper script named jdtls to your PATH.
JDT.LS is the same language server used by Red Hat's VSCode Java extension. Running it requires Java 17 or later, and you need a full JDK, not just a JRE.
Who it's for
- Java developers using Claude Code who want code intelligence on .java files
- Developers who want language-server-backed refactoring support for Java in Claude Code
