What it is
Popup CRO is a marketing skill for creating popups and modals that balance conversion with user experience. It covers six popup types (email capture, lead magnet, discount/promotion, exit intent, announcement banner, slide-in) and six trigger strategies ranked by context: time-based, scroll-based, exit intent, click-triggered, page-count/session-based, and behavior-based. Click-triggered popups have zero annoyance factor and the highest conversion rates (10%+) since the user initiates the interaction. The skill provides detailed copy formulas for each popup element. Headlines follow benefit-driven, question, command, social proof, or curiosity patterns. CTA buttons use first person ("Get My Discount") and focus on value over action. Decline options are explicitly addressed -- the skill warns against manipulative guilt-trip copy like "No, I don't want to save money" and recommends polite alternatives like "No thanks" or "Maybe later." Design best practices cover visual hierarchy, sizing for desktop and mobile, close button placement, and mobile considerations where full-screen overlays feel aggressive and bottom slide-ups work better. The compliance section addresses GDPR consent language, accessibility requirements (keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, focus traps), and Google's guidelines on intrusive interstitials that can hurt mobile SEO rankings.
