What it is
Programmatic SEO is a marketing skill for creating SEO-optimized pages at scale using templates and structured data. Unlike manual content creation, it uses repeating keyword patterns (like "[X] vs [Y]" or "[service] in [location]") combined with unique data to generate many pages that each provide genuine value. The skill emphasizes quality over quantity -- 100 great pages beat 10,000 thin ones. The skill provides 12 playbooks, each targeting a different keyword pattern: templates, curation, conversions, comparisons, examples, locations, personas, integrations, glossary, translations, directory, and profiles. A selection table helps choose the right playbook based on available assets. For example, a product with integrations should consider the integrations playbook, while a company with proprietary data should lean toward directories and profiles. Playbooks can be layered together. A data defensibility hierarchy ranks sources from proprietary (strongest, you created it) through product-derived and user-generated to public (weakest, anyone can use). The implementation framework covers keyword pattern research, data requirements, template design ensuring uniqueness per page, internal linking architecture with hub-and-spoke models, indexation strategy, and platform selection. Common mistakes called out include thin content from just swapping city names, keyword cannibalization, and over-generation of pages with no search demand.
